Privacy Policy — Enliten Chrome Extension

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Academica (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Enliten Chrome Extension (the “Extension”).

The Extension has a single purpose: it lets students with an Enliten account save the YouTube video they are currently viewing to their personal watch list on the Enliten platform with one click.

This policy covers the Extension only. Information handled within the Enliten platform itself is governed by the Enliten Platform Privacy Policy, available at Privacy Policy.

2. Information the Extension Collects

The Extension collects the minimum information needed to perform its single function, and only at the moment a student deliberately activates it:

• Video URL and title. When activated on a YouTube video page, the Extension reads the URL and title of the video in the active tab.
• Enliten account credential. The Extension identifies the student’s Enliten account via the student’s existing Enliten login session so the video can be added to the correct watch list.
• Request metadata. The date and time of the save request, used for operation and troubleshooting.

3. How We Use Information

Information collected by the Extension is used solely to:

• Add the selected video to the student’s Enliten watch list
• Display the student’s saved videos to them within the Enliten platform
• Maintain the security and reliability of the service (for example, basic error logs)

We do not use this information for advertising, do not sell it, and do not use it to build profiles for any purpose unrelated to the Extension’s single function.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent any information collected by the Extension. Data is transmitted only to Enliten’s own servers over an encrypted connection. We share information only:

• With service providers that host our infrastructure, who are bound by confidentiality obligations and may use the data only to operate the service on our behalf
• With the student’s school or district, where required under our educational agreements
• When required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and our service

5. Data Security

Data sent by the Extension is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Within the Enliten platform, student information is protected by access controls and is available only to personnel who need it to operate the service.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Watch list entries are retained while the student’s Enliten account remains active. Students can remove videos from their watch list at any time within the platform. Upon account deletion, or upon a verified request from a student’s school, district, or parent/guardian, associated watch list data is deleted within [N] days. Deletion requests may be sent to rshook@academica.org.

7. Students and Children’s Privacy

The Extension is designed for use in an educational setting.

We collect and use student information solely for educational purposes and at the direction of the student’s school. Student data is never used for targeted advertising and is never sold.

Where the Extension is used by students under 13, we rely on the school to provide consent on behalf of parents, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and FTC guidance for educational technology providers.

To the extent information collected through the Extension is part of a student’s education record under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we handle it in accordance with our agreements with schools and districts.

Parents and guardians may review or request deletion of their child’s information by contacting their school or by emailing rshook@academica.org.

8. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

Our collection and use of data through the Extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The Extension requests only the permissions necessary to perform its single purpose.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify users through the Enliten platform. Continued use of the Extension after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
